March 24, 2008 - AEMFI BI-Annual Conference General Assembly in Assosa, Ethiopia

The Association of Ethiopian Microfinance Institutions (AEMFI) is planning to hold its Bi-Annual Conference and General Assembly between March 24-27, 2008 in Assosa. The theme of this year's conference will be on "The Future of Microfinance in the New Ethiopian Millennium."

Program:

Microfinance regulation and governance

  • Governance, management and systems development;
  • Regulation and supervision;
  • Microfinance strategy and policy;
  • Internal control system.

Options to increase loan capital of MFIs and outreach

  • Understanding and expanding markets: "providing microfinance services through commercial banking operation";
  • Saving mobilization;

Performance

  • MFIs costs and risks;
  • Review of performance of MFIs;
  • Risk management of MFIs.

Product Development

  • Effective micro-loan insurance and micro-health Insurance programs to reduce vulnerability;
  • Product development to match the needs of MSE operators.

Impact of microfinance

  • How microfinance contributes to gender equality;
  • The impact of microfinance on employment: what do we know?;
  • Microfinance and agriculture: How to make it better work?;
  • The impact of microfinance in reducing poverty.

Development of Saving and Credit Cooperatives (SACCOs)

  • The development of SACCOs in Ethiopia;
  • The regulatory framework of SACCOs;
  • Product development in SACCOs;
  • Performance of SACCOs;
  • Strength and weaknesses of SACCOs in Ethiopia;
  • The prospectus of SACCOs in Ethiopia.

The Association of Ethiopian Microfinance Institution (AEMFI) will pay a modest honorarium to authors of selected papers as a token of appreciation.
A short abstract of the paper should be submitted for screening by December 15, 2007. Our adress:
